Raising your Renown Rank will unlock features related to your troops and their classes.
To be specific, the "Class Change" feature, which is unlocked at Renown Rank B, is a great way to significantly improve the overall performance of your units. With that being said, it is highly recommended to get Renown Rank B as soon as possible.
In addition, as your Renown Rank increases, the bonuses and rewards will increase after clearing a stage.
Best Early-Game Renown Farming Method
Earn Renown from Auxiliary Stages.
Repeating Auxiliary Stages allows you to earn Renown, Gold, and EXP continuously during the early game.
Most notably, The Sigil's Trial, Intermediate 1, is one of the best stages to generate a lot of Renown quickly in the early stages of the main story.
Note that there are catapults and ballistae in this stage, which you can use to complete the stage easily and keep earning Renown and other resources.
Best Mid- to Late-Game Renown Farming Method
Once you are in the midgame, you can start farming Renown from The Sigil's Trials that match your current level.

Clearing main story stages, auxiliary stages, and side quests will earn you Renown, so it is highly suggested to try to clear them all, especially the side quests and those that are repeatable.
Rebuilding towns can also increase your Renown Rank. However, most of these towns are not related to the main story, but it is still a great way to increase your Renown Rank.
