Reroll until you unlock a 5-team combination.
Start the battle and see if you can start with a 5-team combination in a Warcry formation. Otherwise, reroll the boss fight. Having this formation will help you defeat an Elemental Tree enemy immediately in your first turn.
A 4-team combination is optional especially when Overdrive is enabled. However, it is still a compromise.
Lower the attack power of the boss.
In your second turn, make use of the Nagashi Slash to minimize the attack power of the boss. Attempt to lower it up to 3 levels.
Inflict Stun status when Stare is used.
Apply a Stun effect to the boss in order to prevent it from using Stare. Although the Stun chance is low, it is still effective in battle.
You can also inflict it to Elementals and Pukas so make it a point of inflict the Stun status regularly.
Leave one Pooka survive in battle.
Finish off the Elementals first. Then, the Puka by using Musahi's Okizan.
The boss will summon two Pookas afterwards and can use an anti-Strike attribute attack. Refrain from using techs like strong attacks or punches and use other skills.

Set party formation.
Use Diffusion formation and spread your party members. United Attacks and the Warcry Formation's Showstopper will be not in effect due to the boss fight's gimmick effect.

The Child Rock gimmick will disrupt your current formation and set your party members apart when attacked. It is better to have all party members widespread at the beginning.
Also, don't use team attacks in this battle.
Boss Strategies and How to Defeat
Prioritize the Water Elementals.
Take the down Water Elemental first without using United Attacks. These minions can use Maelstrom and Washing early if your party has low Speed stats.
Use Chains to counter Maelstrom and Washing skills.
Since Water Spirits have higher Speed stats, they will always attack early every turn. Counter this by using the Conditional tech, Chains, to evade the attacks. You can also command fast characters to Follow Attacks and set slow characters to Defend.
Use Nagashi Slash to minimize Wriggling Tentacle's attack boost.
The Wriggling Tentacles skill provides an attack boost to the Divine Spirit boss by +2. In order to reduce the boost effects, use Nagashi Slash. This will help in minimizing the Divine Spirit boss's damage output.
Exploit the weakness to the boss by using Pierce skills.
The boss is weak to Pierce skills. Make sure you have access to it during the boss fight.
Inflict Stun status.
Stun is also effective against the boss and the elementals. Constantly apply it in battle. Using Gravity Bind is an option as well.
